Straight from Savage Garden... |
"A love song in its purest essence. This track was actually written in the last few weeks of recording and was originally intended to be a subtle, low-key ending to the album. Charles Fisher's producing and Chris Lord-Alge's mix really made the song a much stronger statement. Definetly a pleasing surprise for us. One of the few songs that ended up exactly how we imagined it would." -Darren Hayes |

Say WHAT? |
If you have the American self-titled CD, here's something to listen for. In the last verse (where the only instrument in the background is drums) right when Darren says "do" he also whispers in the background "I love you." It's 2:55 (two minutes, fifty-five seconds) into the song. For those with an Australian CD, sorry! It's not on that version! Woah... TMD was originally titled "Magical Kisses." It was faster than the current song, had a different chorus ("I've got all the magical kisses... magical kisses... on my lips now..."), and extra verses ("I'm gonna plant a kiss / like a magic seed / and watch it grow into everything for you and me...") Darren reworked the song a little bit and it gained its current appellation, which was lifted from a British film of the same name. Here's food for thought: TMD was their first really big breakthrough hit. Would they have sold upwards of 20 million albums if it remained "Magical Kisses" to this day? |

I’ll be your dream / I’ll be your wish / I’ll be your fantasy / I’ll be your hope / I’ll be your love / be everything that you need / I’ll love you more with every breath / truly madly deeply do / I will be strong I will be faithful / cause I’m counting on / a new beginning / a reason for living / a deeper meaning -->chorus: I want to stand with you on a mountain / I want to bathe with you in the sea / I want to lay like this forever / until the sky falls down on me and when the stars are shining brightly in the velvet sky / I’ll make a wish to send it to heaven / then make you want to cry / the tears of joy for all the pleasure in the certainty / that we’re surrounded by the / comfort and protection of / the highest powers / in lonely hours / the tears devour you -->chorus oh can you see it baby / you don’t have to close your eyes / cause it’s standing right here before you / all that you need will surely come I’ll be your dream / I’ll be your wish / I’ll be your fantasy / I’ll be your hope / I’ll be your love / be everything that you need / I’ll love you more with every breath / truly madly deeply do / (I love you) -->chorus twice |
Video Eye Candy |
International version![]() Darren and Daniel wrote the original treatment for the TMD video, which was filmed in the US with director Andy Morahand. That video didn't meet expectations, so they filmed another video--this one--in Paris. This was Daniel's idea; he got it from seeing the video "Never Tear Us Apart" by INXS, which was shot in Prague. He thought the European scenery would fit the song perfect and--ta da! The video. Did you notice... Australian version ![]() Darren wrote this treatment and the video was filmed in Brisbane. The guys wore clothes they picked up in New York and Los Angeles on their then recent trip to the US. Making an appearance are Darren's father (the older man) and his niece (the baby).
