Hold Me

Straight from Savage Garden... "This is a song about the moment where you're ready to give up the fight in a relationship. We don't understand why, but something's not working, even though we wish it could. We really love each other, but why do we keep doing this to each other. We're destroying one another, so maybe being together isn't the best thing for us. It's as if you no longer have any defenses and you agree that things just can't be fixed. It's like a Rubik's Cube, where you finally just give up, and that's OK."
-Darren Hayes
"This was my least favorite song for a long time, sort of a four-chord musical thing that didn't turn me on that much. But once it was put together with Darren's vocal, I thought, 'Wow!'"

Avoid Those Embarrassing Misheard Lyric Moments hey / if we can't find a way out of these problems / then maybe we don't need this / standing face to face / enemies at war we build defenses / and secret hiding places
-->chorus: I might need you to hold me tonight / I might need you to say it's all right / I might need you to make the first stand / because tonight I'm finding it hard to be your man
hey / more than angry words I hate this silence / it's getting so loud / well I want to scream / but bitterness has silenced these emotions / it's getting hard to breathe / so tell me isn't happiness / worth more than a gold and diamond ring / I'm willing to do anything / to calm the storm in my heart / I've never been the praying kind / but lately I've been down upon my knees / not looking for a miracle / just a reason to believe
-->chorus
do you remember not long ago / when we used to live for the night-time / cherish each moment / now we don't live we exist / we just run through our lives / so alone / that's why you've got to hold me / hey / if we can't find a way out of these problems / then maybe we don't need this / standing face to face / enemies at war we build defences / and secret hiding places
-->chorus
Video Eye Candy International version

Release Year: 2000 - Director: Alek Kesheshien
In this vid, you get two basic things. Darren and more Darren. Okay, seriously... most of it is either a)Darren walking through some dark alleys and his way to nowhere (familiar theme?) or b)Darren and a LUCKY girl embracing (neither with a shirt, by the way). That's it. It's truly video eye candy. But I must say... damn, its almost pure sugar!

Did you notice...
  • What, is everybody in the video paranoid? Everyone, even Darren, is looking around and behind them or eyeing each other.
  • The girl has a sun tattoo.
  • When one girl cries, the tears are black from her eye makeup (whoops...)
  • What is it that he writes on that note? Too bad it's not his phone number.... hehehe :)
  • Of course Darren would be in a coffee shop... maybe it's Starbucks?
