Break Me Shake Me

Straight from Savage Garden... "Once again dealing with conflict, this track is schizophrenic. The slick moody bassline and held-back vocal in the verses are in direct opposition to the intense anger and release of the chorus. Turbulent mood swings and angry guitar hooks dominate throughout. When Rex Goh played the solo we were jumping out of our skins. Even though it goes all over the place we felt that the solo was perfect. It was a single take and was so angry we just had to keep it."

Avoid Those Embarrassing Misheard Lyric Moments I never thought I’d change my opinion again / but you moved me in a way that I’ve never known / you moved me in a way that I’ve never known / but straight away you just moved into position again / you abused me in a way that I’ve never known / you abused me in a way that I’ve never known
-->chorus: so break me shake me hate me take me over / when the madness stops then you will be alone / just break me shake me hate me take me over / when the madness stops then you will be alone
so you’re the kind who deals with the games in the mind / well you confuse me in a way that I’ve never known / you confuse me in a way that I’ve never known
-->chorus
she says "I can help you, but what do you say?" / but it’s not free baby you’ll have to pay / you just keep me contemplating that your soul is slowly fading / God don’t you know I live with a ton of regret / cause I used to move you in a way that you’ve never known / but then I accused you in a way that you’ve never known / but you hurt me in a way that I’ve never known
-->chorus
listen baby / you’ll be you’ll be alone / break me shake me hate me take me make me / fake me break me shake me hate me take me / break me
Video Eye Candy International version

Release Year: 1998 - Director: Adolfo Doring
Again Daniel got ideas from an INXS video and used them here. Parts of this video were shot at a show in Sydney when "The Future of Earthly Delites Tour" made a stop there.

Did you notice...
  • Is it my imagination or does the set they're on for the other portion of the video remind you of something out of Star Trek?
  • They make an awful lot of noise for the instruments not even being plugged in.
  • Darren looks like he's about to kill someone... probably the cameraman because Darren keeps using the Sporty Spice maneuver on him.

    Australian version

    Release Year: 1997 - Director: Paul Elliot
    This video was shot by Paul Elliot, an independent film maker. To make this video stand apart from the others, the visual treatments are "stripped back, gritty, and evasive." Although what really turned out is an easily forgettable video.

    Did you notice...
  • What's with Darren and the "crazy in the head" motion?
  • Maybe it's the poor quality of the copy I watched, but everyone looks kind of morbid, and not even a cool kind of morbid. And the backup singers look REALLY morbid.
  • Daniel sometimes grimaces like he's thinking, "Hurry up Daz and get it right, I've been air-guitaring this same riff for two hours..."
